The best friend I never met
Sep. 10th, 2008 10:31 pmI thought it was unusual for Lyn to suddenly go silent for a couple of days. Last night I found out (via a message from her brother) that she'd passed away on her bed on Sunday. My last message from her was at 6pm.
A memorial was held at 9pm tonight, 4000km away (in Kuala Lumpur). On Linda's suggestion, I lit three candles, put on some music, and sat and...grieved. We never actually met in person, but we are not strangers. We talked (on IRC, or ICQ, or MSN) morning and evening, almost every day, for years. Most of it was small talk, granted, but I think that's all that's required to "be there" for someone. And that's what I will miss the most.
Lyn, I hope you found your home. You'll be pleased to know that my dinner included carrots (yes, private joke).
