SVEC FD7419 KVM

This post is purely for the benefit of Google users. Move along. :)

Anyway, after rescuing an 8 port KVM from the junk pile here for someone else, I needed documentation so that I could test it. Google turned up this, but comments there are disabled, so I'm following up here, as I've since located the device's manual. :P

Here is a full list of the hotkeys the device understands:

Prev channel: scroll-lock scroll-lock up
Next channel: scroll-lock scroll-lock down
Prev bank: scroll-lock scroll-lock pgup
Next bank: scroll-lock scroll-lock pgdown
Select channel by number: scroll-lock scroll-lock bank(1-8) port(1-8)
Toggle beeping: scroll-lock scroll-lock b
Start auto Scan: scroll-lock scroll-lock s (press any key to stop)
Factory reset (except password): scroll-lock scroll-lock r
Search channel by name: scroll-lock scroll-lock f
Menu: scroll-lock scroll-lock space

The default password is '00000000'.

Not a post-swancon post

I considered writing my swancon thoughts here, however it's a bit late and I don't think I'm quite for the required mental exertion (unlike [livejournal.com profile] linstar, who is currently composing a lengthy post). Suffice it to say I enjoyed myself tremendously.

Instead, for now I shall link to a comic which struck something of a chord with me, possibly because of the passing resemblance to conversations that Linda and I have occasionally.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

After a fairly slack morning/lunchtime, I made my way to East Fremantle for Norah's birthday. Mostly pictures )

Afterwards I gave [livejournal.com profile] mynxii a lift home, and she kindly gave me dinner. I witnessed [livejournal.com profile] kae_dash and [livejournal.com profile] aescapulius's antics first hand, and marvelled at the concept of competitive housekeeping. In all, a great social day for social activity, despite [livejournal.com profile] linstar missing most of the action.

I guess this means I'm now open to asking or answering everyone else's questions too. :P

Kings Park and the Unicorn Moon-Sickle

This post is dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] moonvoice, who somehow survived visiting our home for dinner and a movie tonight. :P

I encourage you all to rush out and throw money at her for prints or originals of her wonderful art; I love many of her pieces.

22 songs

Yes, it's that guess-that-song thing that's been doing the rounds recently. I didn't bother with the random selection of songs, on account of the likelyhood of coming up with a bunch of songs with no lyrics.

Hello, Melbourne (again)

I meant to mention this a bit earlier, but in *looks at clock* four and a half hours I'm flying to Melbourne to spend a week with my brother and family. Itinerary is:

TT595
PER Sat 01-Nov-2008 19:30
MEL Sun 02-Nov-2008 00:55

TT594
MEL Sat 08-Nov-2008 17:00
PER Sat 08-Nov-2008 19:00

I will be employing the Just-In-Time methodology as far as planning what I'm doing on a given day, so my schedule is quite open at this point. :P

The best friend I never met

I thought it was unusual for Lyn to suddenly go silent for a couple of days. Last night I found out (via a message from her brother) that she'd passed away on her bed on Sunday. My last message from her was at 6pm.

A memorial was held at 9pm tonight, 4000km away (in Kuala Lumpur). On Linda's suggestion, I lit three candles, put on some music, and sat and...grieved. We never actually met in person, but we are not strangers. We talked (on IRC, or ICQ, or MSN) morning and evening, almost every day, for years. Most of it was small talk, granted, but I think that's all that's required to "be there" for someone. And that's what I will miss the most.

Lyn, I hope you found your home. You'll be pleased to know that my dinner included carrots (yes, private joke).

Valence, France

Oh dear, it's been a month already since we left France. Where did the time go? I do intend to write a travelogue at some point, filled with photos. I have three and a half DVDs worth to choose from (though a gig or two of that is video). But before I do that I have a lot of photo stitching to do.

Click for an example )

I probably should have gone to bed a while ago.

A heart-wrenching tale about Animal Crossing

A small number of you (mostly those familiar with Joystiq and/or 4chan) may have already seen it, but this is one the saddest stories I've ever read. I recommend viewing the YTMND version. Those unfamiliar with the game Animal Crossing may find the wikipedia entry useful.

Oh, and, uh, on a totally unrelated note, happy new year. :P

I can has car.

We picked up the car late yesterday afternoon. Can it be drive time now plz? )

If we exclude the car I had 14 years ago on account of it being (I'm pretty sure) registered in my mum's name, then this will technically be my first car. :P I am looking forward to driving to Toodjay this weekend.

When leaving the house this morning we realised we'd left a garage remote in the Festiva. Oops.

In unrelated news we attended a wedding on Sunday. Linda did all the flowers (bouquets, corsages, buttonholes, table centrepieces); photos will be added to her portfolio soon. I was handed a small MiniDV camera with which to record proceedings. I suspect my still camera takes better video though. OTOH my memory cards store less than the tapes. Another two weddings the next two weekends (both of which Linda's doing the flowers for), and a fourth later next month, will hopefully conclude our wedding season for this year. :P

At last, four doors

Looks like some time next week I'll own my (technically[1]) first car. While Linda and I had been discussing on and off for quite a while the possibility of replacing the Lindamobile, in the last couple of weeks interest has been slowly ramping up, culminating in Linda sending me (along with another (more expensive) car) this ad on Friday, which turns out to be pretty much exactly the sort of car I had in mind. Today (well, Saturday) we took the car for a test drive (with our nephew Issac in tow), and liked it enough to be comfortable putting down a deposit, though I did spend an awfully long time staring at the dotted line awaiting my signature. The line between making impulse decisions and being unable to make a decision is thinner than I thought. :P

It'll be kinda sad to see the Festiva go. But nothing lasts forever; including cars. While Linda bought the car before she met me, I've driven the majority of the quarter of a million kilometres it's done. I will have to take some photos for nostalgia's sake before we pick the new car up (and thus join the seemingly large number of people who have acquired new cars recently).

[1]: I am of course excluding the several cars I drove on a regular basis but didn't actually own, such as said Festiva, and much less recently, a somewhat neglected Mark II Cortina (registered in my mum's name, but otherwise you may prefer to consider this to be my first real car. :P).

Yay Andy and Ellora!

Okay, it took a little longer than I was hoping, but I've finally got Ellora and Andrew's wedding photos in my gallery. Now for captioning, sigh. My camera struggled a bit in the low light levels of the reception venue; my next camera is so going to have to be an SLR.

yep, photos )

Oh, and on an unrelated note, I've been asked to mention that [livejournal.com profile] reskviki is in town this week, I'm guessing on birthday-related business.

(no subject)

Last weekend was Art and Anna's wedding. I had been volunteered to be first at the venue to help with initial setup. I also got to drive their car, which was quite fun, though I still find the springy feel of power steering to be unpleasant. Anyway, overall it was a very pleasant and relaxed (albeit busy) day, and I think I got a few good photos. Not necessarily always the best photos, but it was good to get some practice under the conditions (bright sunlight with shaded area can make managing the dynamic range tricky).

Anyway, onto some of my better shots of the day. )

Woo!

I received a phone call late this afternoon telling me that at 5:18pm Melbourne time I became an uncle again. I wonder when people will start asking me when my turn is...

In other news Swancon last weekend was a lot of fun. I quite literally can not wait until the next one. Made a reasonable effort at being more active socially this year; still need more practice though. I took the time to go to more panels, and spent less time just floating around the hotel.

I was terribly impressed with the ease with which [livejournal.com profile] cyps and [livejournal.com profile] willowgypsy *waves to them* (two people I'd known outside of fandom for 12 years now; there was this constant feeling of being Perthed. :) ) assimilated into swancon culture. It made me glad to be associated with such a welcoming group of people.

My camera is in the repair shop at the moment, having its LCD replaced (after somehow being broken while still in its camera bag). I kind of feel naked without it. :P

My Swancon photos (such as they are) will be available Real Soon Now (need to cull the crap/duplicates first).
